Branches and History of Astrology.
Some of the major branches of astrology include:
Natal
The birth-chart (also known as nativity or horoscope). This is a map of the personality, potentials, gifts, strengths, weaknesses, psychology, and basic character. Note the birth-chart can apply to an individual person or an entity such as a business or corporation.
The astrology of relationships
This is a sub-branch of natal astrology. It involves a comparison of the birth charts of two or more people - often couples.
Medical
This is the practice of applying astrological principles to medical knowledge.
Astro-meteorology
This is the study of weather and other natural phenomena including volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
Astro-cartography
This is the study of the astrological effects of moving to different locations in the world.
Astro-economics
This involves applying astrological principles to areas of life such as the stock market and the study of economic cycles.
Mundane
This is the study of political and national charts.
Historical
This is the study of long term astrological cycles and the corresponding historical periods.
Cosmobiology
This is a highly technical form of astrology that attempts to make astrology more scientific pioneered by Rienhold Ebertin.
Horary
This is a sub-branch of natal astrology. Horary astrology was devised as a way of answering a specific question by casting an astrological chart for the time the question is asked.
Electional astrology
This is a branch of horary astrology which seeks to elect the best time to start a new venture or project.
Predictive & Observational methodologies
Observational techniques involve the study of astrological patterns as they actually happen. Predictive techniques involve the use of astrological techniques for predicting outcomes and possibilities. (This is based on astrological data such as transits and progressions, as compared to the natal chart).
